Legends Way
A new permanent walkway at the Stadium of Light that will honour the club's legends — players, staff, and the supporters who have helped shape its story.
Coming Summer 2026
Legends Way has not yet been installed at the Stadium of Light. This page will be updated when the walkway opens. What you see below is a preview of what is to come.
What is Legends Way?
Legends Way is a dedicated walkway being created outside the Stadium of Light. It will feature bespoke engraved granite slabs that recognise and celebrate those who have made a lasting contribution to Sunderland AFC — from legendary players to the supporters and community figures who have helped build the club's identity over the decades.
Each slab will carry the name and the historic Sunderland AFC badge, creating a permanent, publicly accessible tribute that fans can visit on matchdays and beyond.
Club Recognition — A Preview
30 April 2026
On 30 April 2026, Sunderland AFC recognised the work behind this archive with a bespoke granite slab engraved with "DAVID BAMBROUGH — LOCAL LEGEND" and the historic Sunderland AFC badge — to be installed in Legends Way when it opens.
The presentation was made at the Stadium of Light by club legend Kevin Phillips, in recognition of the effort to catalogue, preserve and make accessible the names and stories of the thousands of supporters commemorated on the Wall of Fame. A replica was also presented as a personal keepsake.
This slab will become one of the first to be installed when Legends Way is unveiled, and serves as an example of the permanent recognition the walkway will offer to those who have contributed to the club's heritage.
The Wall of Fame Connection
This archive — the Stadium of Light Wall of Fame — was a key part of why this recognition came about. The Wall of Fame bricks, installed around the perimeter of the stadium since it opened in 1997, represent thousands of supporters who wanted to leave a permanent mark.
Legends Way extends that spirit of permanent commemoration, bringing it to a new, dedicated space outside the stadium where legends of every kind can be honoured for generations to come.
This is an independent, unofficial fan project and personal community archive. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Sunderland AFC or the Stadium of Light. All photographs were taken from publicly accessible areas around the stadium. The site is completely free, non-commercial, and created as a labour of love / data engineering practice project. For official Wall of Fame enquiries, please contact the club directly.
