Story shared by visitors

When the Stadium of Light opened in 1997, my Nana bought me a brick. She decided to buy another brick right next to mine in memory of her brother, Osicker, who had died many years before. According to her, he was the only person in our entire family, other than myself, who was interested in football, and he would walk to Roker Park from Durham—and sometimes even walk back! I never got to meet Osicker, but I’m proud that my brick is next to his, and they also remind me of my Nana every time I see them. I can’t imagine there are many other Osickers on the Wall of Fame, as it is such an unusual name. The story I was told is that his name was meant to be Oscar, but there was some mix-up on his birth certificate due to bad handwriting or something like that. His parents decided they liked it, so it stuck! Whether that is true, I don’t really know—but it’s a cool name!
